The Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) is a nonprofit charitable organization committed to building a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.

The WMF maintains the technical infrastructure to support these online volunteer communities and pursues a permanent agenda of technical and programmatic innovation. It also supports an incredibly diverse global community of editors and readers through global conferences, public outreach activities, and strategic relationships which support the cause of free knowledge. It is a highly transparent, collaborative organization.

A global network of Wikimedia chapter organizations conducts important activities to support the movement in a fast-growing number of countries. The Wikimedia Foundation and chapters collaborate on a range of activities, including fundraising -- especially during an annual end-of-year fundraiser.

The Global Campaigns position will play an important role in assisting chapters to develop their fundraising programs and in strengthening the relationship between chapters and the Wikimedia Foundation through the 2010 fundraiser. He or she will report to the Chief Community Officer. The job will require spending significant time at the Foundation office in San Francisco, with frequent international travel.

This is a temporary position ending February 15, 2011.

The Global Campaigns positions will execute the following responsibilities on an on-going basis:

* Work collaboratively with chapters to support fundraising, learning the special needs of each one.
* Work with Foundation staff to serve requests from chapters, in preparation for and during the end-of-year fundraiser.
* Help chapters begin to establish donor and/or member databases and to solve other technical problems.
* Help chapters adopt best practices in their outreach to existing and potential donors.
* Conduct trainings with chapter staff and volunteers.
* Recruit, train and manage volunteers and staff to help with the fundraiser.

The person who fills the Global Campaigns position should have most of the following experience and qualifications:
* Online fundraising and/or campaigning experience;
* Strong writing skills;
* Strong face-to-face and over the phone communication skills;
* Ability to speak in front of groups and lead events;
* Ability to think clearly and analytically, and to express one's ideas and convictions clearly and concisely;
* The ability to speak multiple languages is a major plus;
* Someone with experience living or working outside the United States;
* Comfortable in a highly collaborative, consensus-oriented environment;
* Creative, highly motivated, and able to operate effectively in multiple cultural contexts.
