About this job

Volunteer editors are the lifeblood of Wikipedia. Since 2007, the number of editors contributing to Wikipedia has been stagnant. What will it take to drive significant growth in the number of people who contribute high quality information? It’s your job to figure it out -- and to drive the development of innovative features that help us engage and retain new volunteers for Wikipedia and our other projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop product strategy around editor engagement (recruitment, activity, and retention)
  • Build consensus around product priorities both within the Foundation and with the Wikipedia community
  • Drive product development with a team of designers, engineers, and community members
  • Use a variety of data sources (such as usability studies, user research, quantitative analysis) to determine and prioritize user needs. Translate needs into product requirements for development team.
  • Evaluate success of features by defining and analyzing metrics.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field in technology or design (MS a plus)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of product management experience for an Internet company
  • Excellent analytical ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams
  • Experience in user research, by either qualitative or quantitative methods
  • Experience designing simple and intuitive user interfaces
  • Experience participating in a major open source project a plus
  • Experience with online communities a plus
