Resolutions Hardware purchase - June 2006 Feedback?
This resolution approving the purchase of the following technical equipment and service contract was approved by vote (3 supports) on 2 June 2006.

Whereas,

The Technical Committee held a meeting and determined that:

We need a big new switch to a) connect more servers as we buy them, b) keep up with growing bandwidth requirements and capacities, c) serve as an Internet router (BGP router) so we can connect to the internet as an autonomous network, enabling us to buy bandwidth from multiple suppliers and saving multiple tens of thousands of dollars per month. Later we will be expanding it by buying more modules that can inserted into it.

The initial hardware costs roughly US$60,000 plus US$3,000 to US$4,500 annually for the support contract.
