- I am a part of the Gene Wiki team and the author of MicrobeBot. I am building a single page web application designed to display and edit the contributions of the Gene Wiki project using Wikidata as the backend database. The application will serve as a front end for users to view microbial species (initially) and their genes, proteins, regulatory elements, gene ontology terms etc... The application uses the WDQS to retrieve data for a selected bacteria and displays that data, allowing the user to select genes and proteins of interest. The open source genome browser JBrowse (http://jbrowse.org) has been modified to utilize the WDQS for annotation retrieval and allows users to view genomic data pulled directly from Wikidata for their microbe of choice. The next step is to allow the user to add referenced annotations to genes, metadata to organisms, gene ontology terms to proteins etc... and then view them on the application immediately, and share them with the world in Wikidata. This requires a streamlined workflow that allows the user to make edits in the application, refresh and see them. For that we need to authorize the application to make edits on the user's behalf and that is why I am seeking OAuth registration for my application.
