== Wikipedia ==

Wikipedia è un progetto volto alla scrittura di enciclopedie in tutte le lingue del mondo. Praticamente ognuno è libero di contribuire.

Il progetto è iniziato nel gennaio 2001 nella sola lingua Inglese, ma attualmente ha raggiunto i 5,000,000 di articoli in più di 200 lingue. La Wikipedia più sviluppata è quella Inglese, con più di 1,500,000 di articoli; quindi vengono quelle Tedesca e Francese, con più di 400,000 ognuna. Le Wikipedie in nove altre lingue hanno almeno 100,000 articoli, più di quelle in 100 altre lingue hanno almeno 1,000 articoli. Ogni mese vengono proposte versioni in nuove lingue.

Dall'inizio del progetto più di 100,000 utenti registrati hanno fatto almeno 10 edit. Non è noto il numero di utenti che si sono registrati su più di un progetto. Il numero totale di account creati sulla Wikipedia in lingua Inglese supera da solo 1,750,000.

Alcune Wikipedie rilasciano, o pianificano di farlo, delle versioni statiche<!-- check -->. La Wikipedia in lingua Tedesca pubblica due volte l'anno un DVD, in collaborazione con ''Directmedia Publishing''.

Il Wikizionario è un progetto volto a creare dizionari e vocabolari di sinonimi in ogni lingua. Il progetto è partito nel dicembre 2002 ed è attualmente disponibile in più di 100 lingue per un totale di più di 1,500,000 voci. L'edizione più ampia è quella in lingua Inglese, seguita da quella in Francese, Vietnamese e Russo, ognuno dei quali ha più di 100,000 voci. 40 altre lingue hanno almeno 1,000 voci.

Recentemente il Wikizionario ha iniziato una collaborazione con [[#Wikimedia Commons|Wikimedia Commons]], su cui sono stati caricati molti file sonori contenenti esempi di pronuncia.

Lo scopo di Wikibooks è la raccolta di una collezione di libri in formato elettronico, come libri di testo, corsi di lingua, manuali e versioni commentate di libri rilasciati in Pubblico Dominio. L'intento è quello di favorire l'(auto)-apprendimento di studenti e insegnanti nelle scuole superiori e università.

La versione più grande è quella in Inglese, con più di 22,000 moduli. Il progetto è partito nel luglio 2003 e conta più di 50,000 moduli da 1000 libri in continua evoluzione, in 50 lingue.

Wikisource è un progetto in più lingue, partito nel novembre 2003, il cui scopo è la creazione di un archivio aperto di testi distribuibili liberamente. Non si tratta di un formato superiore per conservare classici, leggi e altri lavori come ipertesti, ma anche di un'ottima base per tradurli. All'inizio, tutti i testi in qualsiasi lingua (fatta eccezione per l'Ebraico) si trovavano su una singola wiki, ma adesso Wikisource è presente in diverse versioni linguistiche.

A dicembre 2006, Wikisource comprendeva 150,000 testi in totale. La versione più estesa è quella in lingua Inglese, con oltre 40,000 voci.

Il progetto Wikinotizie (''Wikinews'') è stato lanciato nel dicembre 2004 con lo scopo di fornire notizie su un ampio spettro di argomenti. A febbraio 2006, Wikinotizie è disponibile in 22 lingue e, a dicembre 2006, ha prodotto più di 25,000 articoli giornalistici.

Contributori da ogni parte del mondo scrivono gli articoli collaborativamente. Le voci comprendono sia produzioni originali che richiami da fonti giornalistiche esterne, ma tutti sono redatti secondo un punto di vista neutrale.

Attualmente Wikinotizie ha due scopi: fornire un'alternativa gratuita ai siti di notizie di tipo commerciale e fare in modo che siano controllate rapidamente e aggiornate continuamente.

== Wikiversity ==

Wikiversity is a project dedicated to learning materials and learning communities - of all learner levels. It was set up as a Wikimedia project (in "beta" phase), on 15th August, 2006, which is subject to a review after six months. Work is ongoing to determine guidelines for its scope, including on research, at the multilingual co-ordination Wikiversity project (to clarify the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiversity/Modified_project_proposal scope] originally approved by the board). A finalised colour scheme for the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiversity/logo logo] is also being finalised - as are the project's [http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Motto_contest motto and slogan].
